I CHOOSE KENYA

For all of us here in Kenya and beyond, it's time to exercise our constitutional right and select our new leaders to head us for the next 5 years. A short introduction, am Mildred Kesio, born to a luhya mum and kalenjin dad. Brought up in Eastlands Nairobi. What am trying to say is the only language I understand is English and Swahili.

A few years ago my mum got unwell, she called up her sister, who was close by, explained herself in detail about the help she needed, as she promised to show up. Trust me you, we waited and waited and waited. A few hours went by and we couldn't see her. Mum on the other hand wasn't getting better by waiting, she needed to check in to hospital. We earnestly dialed a close friend who was also a neighbor her name was Eve. Sooner rather than later Eve was there. She took mum to hospital, ensured that everything had been done, picked up her drugs and dropped her back home, without asking for anything in return.

Did i mention that Eve is LUO, Yes she is. Did her tribe stop her from helping us in our dire time of need NO. She knew that our tribal diversities are not there to divide us, because we are better together. In 2007 we forgot about everything and fought against each other. The fight was against humanity, sisterhood and the next generation.  Kalenjin's and Luo's fought against each other, I tear down remembering the lives that were lost, property that was destroyed while millions of people were left homeless. What if we consciously chose to protect our neighbors, am sure we would have made a different history all together.

I dare you to pledge allegiance to our nation of Kenya. To protect, to love, to live in peace and unity just as we recite in our National anthem.

Today I choose peace, I choose to be a Kenyan, a sister and a friend first prior to being a Kalenjin Lady.

I CHOOSE KENYA, DO YOU?
